MINNEAPOLIS—November 3 , 2008—7 Medical Systems™, LLC, a leader in on-demand software, technology and IT services for the healthcare industry, has been named the small and growing company recipient of the IT–Software & Hardware, Communications and Infrastructure Award at the 2008 Tekne Awards, which were held at the Minneapolis Convention Center on October 30, 2008. The Tekne Awards honor superior technology advancement and leadership in Minnesota. 7 Medical Systems breaks down barriers to technology adoption for small and medium healthcare organizations. With its on-demand or software-as-a-service (SaaS) business model, the company makes it possible for critical access hospitals, radiology groups, imaging centers and ambulatory clinics to quickly and cost-effectively implement digital imaging (picture archiving and communication system or PACS), electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) and data backup and recovery solutions without any upfront or ongoing capital costs. With an on-demand approach, healthcare facilities trade in the traditional approach of building these systems in-house for 7 Medical’s more affordable on-demand PACS or EMR systems for a low monthly fee. Facilities that have implemented 7 Medical’s on-demand PACS and EMR solutions have eliminated capital costs and improved efficiencies while realizing as much as 70% cost reductions. "The largest barrier to implementing technology is lack of financial resources," said Jason Studsrud, chief executive officer of 7 Medical Systems. "Next to that, it’s fear and uncertainty. The smaller facilities don’t have the luxury of vast resources to begin with or to fall back upon when things go wrong. That’s exactly why we’re here. We make it possible for the little guys to take advantage of the same technologies as the big guys. And we do it in a way that allows them to minimize risk while realizing immediate cost savings, productivity gains and improvements in patient care. At the end of the day, that’s what matters." "We’re very honored to be recognized by a distinguished organization like the Minnesota High Tech Association and the panel of judges," continued Studsrud. "We appreciate and support MHTA’s advocacy in advancing Minnesota’s technology initiatives in the state, as well as within the national and global economy." The Tekne Awards, presented by the Minnesota High Tech Association (MHTA) in partnership with Enterprise Minnesota and LifeScience Alley, annually recognize Minnesota’s leading technology users and innovators. Tekne Award recipients represent a collection of industry leaders advancing Minnesota’s status as a hub for technology innovation. "This year’s recipients are outstanding examples of innovation and leadership," said Kate Rubin, president, MHTA. "7 Medical Systems is helping to secure Minnesota’s place as a center of innovation in the global economy." Judges selected one recipient out of the three finalists in each of 17 Tekne Awards categories recognizing the best and brightest in development, education, commercialization, and management of technology. Company awards included separate categories for small and growing businesses (with annual revenues of less than $50 million) and established companies (with annual revenues of $50 million or more). This year’s Tekne Awards ceremony was emceed by Kerri Miller, host of Minnesota Public Radio’s "Midmorning" and "Talking Volumes."
